3 Day tour - Hiking or horsetrekking

The hardest and most complete, our 3 day tour takes you through 5 climatic zones and includes:

  • Hikes through the cloud forests of Las Palmas reserve and the Podocarpus national park.

  • Our unique tree canopy tour.

  • A hike to the lakes region and paramo area of the park.

  • A visit to the Las Palmas waterfalls.

Day 1:

Trek up the Rio Yambala valley to the Las Palmas reserve, set in a spectacular mountain bowl in the foothills of the Podocarpus National park. A 2 to 3 hour trek through beautiful countryside with spectacular views.
After lunch explore the cloud forest, discovering an endless diversity of lichens, bromeliads, orchids, giant tree ferns and birds. Observe the treetops on our canopy tour, which zips you up to an observation platform and takes you from tree to tree across a suspension bridge. Safety equipment is provided.
Enjoy dinner at the refuge and a cosy evening around the central fireplace.

Day 2:

A strenuous but rewarding hike through the cloud forests of the Podocarpus national park, to an alpine lake among the peaks of the Cordillera de Los Andes, in the highest part of the park. A 6 - 8 hr trek taking you through three different climatic zones to the paramo and Lake Region.

Day 3:

Visit the Las Palmas waterfalls before saddling up for the return trek to Cabaņas Rio Yambala.

You should bring:
Hiking boots and a dry change of footwear, rain gear, a warm change of clothes, sun cream, hat, camera and plenty of film, binoculars, insect repelant and our bird guide.
